What’s the difference between coaching and psychotherapy?
Due to not being regulated by a state licensing board, coaches have much more choice in their practice including the standards of conduct to follow, education to pursue, services offered, and the policies on which their practices operate. Thus, coaching can be a more or less similar to psychotherapy services dependent on the coach’s choices. A mandated and significant difference in coaching and psychotherapy is that diagnosis, assess, and treatment of mental health disorders in coaching is prohibited. If you need treatment for a mental health disorder, you can see a coach and a therapist simultaneously to support all of your needs, but a coach alone will be unable to address your mental health disorder.
